Town of Babylon board greenlights $2.5 million in bonds for park and rec improvements. Funds target turf fields, playgrounds, and Venetian Park dredging.

With spring training underway at fields like those in Venetian Park off Great Neck Road in Babylon, the Town Board acted fast. On January 14, 2026, it authorized $2,500,000 in bonds to fund key park and recreation upgrades across town.
The main $2.5 million bond covers engineering and installation of tennis courts, pool filtration and drainage systems, fence work, pergolas, flag poles, memorial plaques, playgrounds, skate park and fountain features, plus spray park drainage and irrigation at various Babylon parks. A separate $520,000 bond targets turf field replacements and improvements at town parks. Another $100,000 goes to dredging at Venetian Park, a popular spot for families near the Great South Bay.
These resolutions passed unanimously with 4 yeas and 0 nays, offered by Councilman Martinez and seconded by Councilman Gregory. Town Clerk Geraldine Compitello signed off on the legal notices dated January 14 and February 15, 2026. Full details are public at Town Hall in Babylon during business hours.
Babylon's parks draw crowds from West Babylon to Copiague. Upgrades mean safer playgrounds at spots like the West Babylon Youth Center, where a $75,000 bond funds gym floor reconstruction. Turf fields will boost youth sports, tying into the town's Parks & Recreation push listed on the official site. This keeps Long Island families active amid growing demand. The Babylon Downtown Revitalization Project is also bringing new investment to the area, while the nearby Babylon LIRR Station upgrade nears completion with key milestones ahead — both signs of a town on the move.
