South Shore June 2026: Fairs, Food Fests and More

A Babylon library sale closing today, a three-day international food festival in Deer Park next month and a fireman's fair in Bellmore at the end of June give South Shore residents a full calendar through the first half of summer.

From free community events this weekend to ticketed festivals drawing crowds from across the Island, the Babylon area and its immediate neighbors have more on the schedule through June than most summers in recent memory.

1. Spring Book Sale, Babylon Public Library
   Today, Saturday May 30 | 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
   34 W. Windmill Lane, Babylon Village
   
   The Friends of the Babylon Public Library close their spring sale today, offering thousands of used books, CDs and DVDs priced from a quarter to a few dollars. Closing day regularly draws last-minute buyers who have been waiting for the final markdown. Arrive before noon; shelf stock drops fast in the afternoon hours. Admission is free.
2. Pickles and Paws: Long Island's Largest Adoption Event
   Saturday, May 30 | 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
   Southaven County Park, 761 Victory Ave., Yaphank
   
   New York's largest animal adoption festival brings together rescue organizations from across Long Island for a day at Southaven County Park in Yaphank. Dozens of adoptable dogs and cats are on site from multiple shelters alongside pickle-themed food vendors, live music and craft stalls. Admission is free. Organizers ask that personal pets stay home to reduce stress on the animals available for adoption.
3. Annual Islip Street Fair
   Sunday, May 31 | 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
   Main Street, Islip
   
   The Islip downtown strip closes to traffic for the day to host vendors, carnival rides and live entertainment along Main Street. Food stalls line the route from one end to the other. Parking on side streets fills before noon. The Islip LIRR station on Main Street is a short walk for those coming by train. Admission is free.
4. Maker Faire Long Island
   Saturday, June 6 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
   Stony Brook University, Stony Brook
   
   The 9th annual Maker Faire Long Island brings more than 100 makers to Stony Brook University for a day of STEAM-focused exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities across science, technology, engineering, art and math. Past editions have drawn more than 2,000 attendees, spanning families with young children through adult hobbyists. Tickets are available through Eventbrite; admission is paid. Stony Brook University is accessible from the LIE at Exit 62.
5. Famous Food Festival, Deer Park
   June 19–21
   Deer Park, NY
   
   The "Taste the World" food festival runs three days in Deer Park, bringing international street food vendors alongside craft beverages and live entertainment across the weekend. The festival has grown in each successive year, with lines for signature dishes running 20 to 30 minutes at peak weekend evening hours. General admission starts around $10; VIP packages with early entry are available through the festival website. Advance tickets are recommended: the June 21 closing day typically draws the largest crowds of the weekend.
6. Bellmore Fireman's Fair
   June 25–28
   Bellmore Train Station, Sunrise Highway, Bellmore
   
   One of Nassau County's most established community events, the Bellmore Fireman's Fair sets up on the Sunrise Highway side of the train station for four nights of carnival rides, games and food booths. Proceeds support the Bellmore Fire Department. Admission to the grounds is free; ride tickets are sold on site. Traffic on Sunrise Highway can back up on weekend evenings — arrive before 7 p.m. if parking near the station is a priority.
