Earth Day 2026 on Long Island means free trees for your yard, expert talks on climate and AI at Hofstra, LED bulb giveaways at libraries across Nassau and Suffolk, and community cleanups from the North Shore to the South Shore. Here is everything happening and how to get involved.
PSEG Long Island is giving away 500 free trees through their partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Reserve yours at arborday.org/pseg — first come, first served. You pick up at one of three locations:
Exact pickup locations and times are on the PSEG Earth Month page at psegliny.com/earthday. Trees are native species suited for Long Island yards.
PSEG is also running LED lightbulb and reusable bag giveaways at libraries and YMCAs across the Island throughout April. Confirmed events include six locations from April 7 through April 17 — check psegliny.com/earthday for the full schedule and nearest location.
Just show up during event hours. No registration needed for the LED/bag giveaways.
Hofstra University is hosting Earth Day Conversations on Monday, April 14 at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater in Hempstead. The event is free and open to the public — not just students.
The day features panels on:

Yes. Multiple beach cleanups and park cleanups are organized across Long Island around Earth Day week (April 19-26). Check with your town parks department or local environmental groups like Save the Great South Bay, Surfrider Foundation Long Island chapter, and town-specific conservation boards.
Many towns post cleanup events on their websites in mid-April. If you're looking for more ways to engage with Long Island's sustainability and small business initiatives this spring, there are also grant opportunities worth exploring.
