Cooper Bluff Reopens on Oyster Bay Harbor for Summer 2026

Cooper Bluff opened for its 2026 summer season at the start of May, giving Oyster Bay Harbor its only dedicated waterfront bar just as boating season gets underway along Nassau's north shore.

The bar sits at the water's edge on the harbor, with a direct line of sight to the sailboats and powerboats moored in the bay and a layout built for warm-weather afternoons rather than sit-down dining. Seating is first-come, first-served across firepit tables, high-top counters and picnic tables scattered across an outdoor deck. No reservations, no dress code.

Getting there requires navigating the parking situation, which the bar has engineered around its constraints. Cars use satellite lots near the train station on South Street, and a pink golf cart called the Bluff Bus runs a continuous shuttle to and from the bar throughout the day. Boaters can arrive by water directly, with mooring reservations available through Oyster Bay Harbor. The shuttle keeps vehicle traffic off the immediate waterfront without requiring guests to walk far.

Food comes from an on-site food truck rather than a full kitchen, with a menu built around burgers, sandwiches and seasonal specials that rotates through the summer. The setup reads more beach bar than waterfront restaurant: drinks and harbor views are the draw, with food as the supporting act. The combination has built a loyal following among Nassau north shore residents who want an outdoor spot that does not require a reservation or a collared shirt.

Memorial Day weekend marks the first significant crowd test of the season. Cooper Bluff opened May 1, giving it a few lighter weekends to work through operational details before the holiday surge arrives. The weather forecast complicates this particular weekend: rain is expected through Saturday and into Sunday morning, with Monday looking considerably better. If that pattern holds, expect a compressed crowd Monday afternoon when temperatures recover to the low 70s and a day off lines up with clearing skies. Arrive early — the lot system works smoothly but peak-day waits for the Bluff Bus run longer.

Oyster Bay's harbor district has limited waterfront competition. Most of the village's restaurants and bars sit on East Main Street and South Street, a few blocks from the water.
