As Long Island grapples with rising assaults amid Nassau County's push for safer streets, Farmingdale faced a string of serious crimes this week, including a bar assault that dragged a police officer and deli drug busts.
On January 3, 2026, at 4 a.m., Eighth Squad officers responded to a disturbance outside X bar at 195 Main Street. Niquan Joiner, 24, of 307 Robinson Avenue, East Patchogue, and Devlin Samuels, 23, of 38 S 19th Street, Wyandanch, returned acting erratically, jumped into a blue Nissan Murano, and accelerated, dragging one officer several feet near Melville Road. Both officers were hurt and hospitalized after a violent struggle. Joiner faces Assault 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, and Unlawful Fleeing; Samuels faces Assault 2nd and Resisting Arrest. Arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
On January 28, 2026, at 7:15 p.m., Strategic Response Team officers raided Gutierrez Deli at 416 Conklin Street and J & W Grocery Deli at 499 Conklin Street. They found illegal gambling devices and prescription meds from South America. Jorge Alejandro Pena Rodriguez, 56, of 195 46th Street, Lindenhurst; Nicolas Gutierrez, 57, of 12 Geoffrey Avenue, Syosset; and Venancio Espinal Frias, 58, of 25 Irene Street, Lindenhurst, were charged with Criminal Diversion of Prescription Medication 3rd, Promoting Gambling 2nd, and related counts. Appearance tickets issued for First District Court on February 19.
On February 1, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., Todd McGee, 49, of 5 Dewey Place, Bay Shore, punched and stabbed a 45-year-old woman near Main Street and South Front Street. She was hospitalized stable; McGee charged with Assault 2nd, Weapon Possession 4th, and Aggravated Criminal Contempt. New York State Police arrested Karen Vanessa Portillo, 30, of Amityville, on March 4 in Farmingdale for an unspecified adult arrest. Multiple accidents reported in Hempstead and Oyster Bay areas near Farmingdale.
