State-funded repaving on NY27 and NY24 will disrupt Levittown drivers in 2026. Town of Hempstead hits 100-mile paving milestone amid $1.2B statewide push.

Levittown commuters face major delays in 2026 as New York State unveils a massive $1.2 billion road repaving plan hitting key Hempstead routes like NY27 and NY24.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced over 250 projects statewide, resurfacing more than 4,000 lane miles, with $600 million in new funding for 185 additional jobs. In Nassau County, a $23.1 million project targets NY24 from Meadowbrook State Parkway to NY110 through Hempstead, Oyster Bay, and Babylon towns. Another $20.3 million resurfaces NY27 from the Queens/Nassau line to Harrison Avenue in Hempstead, plus $15.2 million from Harrison Avenue to Wantagh State Parkway. These routes feed directly into Levittown, snaking past local spots like the bustling intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and NY24.
While state work looms, Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti celebrated repaving the 100th mile in 2025 at Howe Court and Whittier Avenue in Levittown. The town plans nearly 110 miles by year-end, backed by $35 million, using durable asphalt mixes to last twice as long. This local push on 1,200 miles of roads every 15 years helps, but state projects on NY27—Sunrise Highway—will clog commutes to businesses like Levittown's Hempstead Turnpike corridor. Meanwhile, Long Island is also receiving $60 million for pothole repairs as part of the state's broader fix-it campaign.
Expect lane closures, overnight work, and detours on NY27 near Harrison Avenue, a main artery for East Meadow and Levittown residents heading to Wantagh or Queens. NY24 repaving affects daily drives past landmarks like Eisenhower Park. Check NYSDOT alerts for schedules; work ramps up spring 2026. Elsewhere in the region, Middle Country Road in Suffolk County continues to worsen as potholes cause daily crashes in Selden and Centereach.
