King Kullen's Levittown store at 3284 Hempstead Turnpike shut its doors after 30 years. Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace plans to open in the space soon.

As Long Island grocery shoppers navigate rising prices amid Nassau County's busy retail scene, King Kullen supermarket chain has closed its Levittown store at **3284 Hempstead Turnpike**, paving the way for **Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace** to open in the space.
The Levittown King Kullen, a fixture in **Levittown Plaza** for more than 30 years, closed permanently. A chain spokesperson, **Lloyd Singer**, confirmed the closure, noting the lease was not renewed. An employee told Greater Long Island the store shut at 3 p.m. on its final day. No layoffs occurred; staff transferred to other King Kullen spots. The Hauppauge-based chain runs over 30 Long Island locations, including four Wild by Nature stores.
Levittown Plaza on **Hempstead Turnpike** also houses **Domenico's Restaurant**, **Starbucks**, and **Dental 365**. The King Kullen spot, called underperforming by News 12, now clears room for Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace. This Italian specialty grocer eyes expansion on Long Island, bringing fresh meats, gourmet cheeses, and bakery items to Levittown shoppers.
King Kullen started in 1930 in Jamaica, Queens, as America's first supermarket. Levittown locals lose a convenient stop, but Uncle Giuseppe's promises upscale options nearby. Hempstead Turnpike traffic stays heavy, so watch for changes at this key retail hub.
