Brothers Eric and Jason Machado, the Huntington restaurateurs behind MB Ramen and Bistro Cassis, have opened Pasta Joint at 28 Wall Street in the former Faz's location. The concept centers on handmade pasta made in an open kitchen, with most dishes priced around $17. It is the third restaurant the siblings operate in the village.
A new pasta spot has opened on Wall Street in Huntington Village, and it comes from a family that already runs two of the block's more reliable restaurants.
Brothers Eric and Jason Machado opened Pasta Joint at 28 Wall Street, taking over the space last occupied by Faz's. The Machados also operate MB Ramen and Bistro Cassis in Huntington, making Pasta Joint their third restaurant in the village. The concept strips Italian cooking down to its most direct form: handmade pasta, an open kitchen and a menu where most dishes cost around $17.
Pasta is rolled and cut at a counter near the entrance, in full view of customers. The open kitchen is both a production floor and the room's visual focal point, a reminder that the food starts from flour and water rather than a sysco delivery.
Huntington Village has cycled through a number of Italian concepts in recent years. Faz's, which occupied 28 Wall Street before Pasta Joint, built a following before closing. The Machados are betting that a stripped-down, affordable model can hold where more elaborate Italian formats have struggled to stay relevant as dining costs climb.
The brothers have shown they can build a neighborhood following. MB Ramen turned into one of the village's more dependable lunch stops, and Bistro Cassis on Gerard Street has drawn diners looking for something a step above casual. Pasta Joint is a different register: less formal, faster-paced and priced to draw repeat visits rather than special occasions.
Huntington Village has been absorbing a wave of new food concepts over the past year. Wonder opened its 100th U.S. location at 825 New York Ave. in Huntington Commons shopping center in February, bringing a multi-restaurant ordering concept under one roof. Kahani, a Punjabi-inspired cocktail bar, took over the former Lasagna Ristorante space on the village's main commercial strip.
The $17 price point for pasta dishes is notable in a market where casual Italian entrees frequently run $22 to $30. Pasta Joint is built to appeal to weeknight diners who want something made from scratch without a check that requires a second thought.
Online ordering is available through freshpastajoint.com and standard delivery platforms. The restaurant is at 28 Wall Street in Huntington Village. No reservations are taken.
