A tragic murder-suicide on Wyoming Court in Syosset killed five family members over an inheritance dispute. Police also report a DWI arrest with a gun and cocaine on the LIE near Syosset.

Syosset Weekly Crime Roundup starts with a heartbreaking murder-suicide that shook Nassau County's tight-knit Syosset community this week. On Wyoming Court, Joseph Delucia Jr., 51, killed four family members and himself with a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun, stemming from fears over his late mother's will and the sale of her home.
Just before noon Sunday, Delucia shot his siblings Joann Kearns, 64, of Tampa, Florida; Frank Delucia, 69, of North Carolina; sister Tina Hammond, 64, and her daughter Victoria Hammond, 30, both of East Patchogue, in the rear den of the Wyoming Court home. Nassau County Police Det. Capt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said Delucia fired 12 shots from the kitchen, driven by his belief he was being cut out of the inheritance after his 95-year-old mother Theresa's funeral at Calverton National Cemetery. He then went to the front lawn, shouted, and shot himself in the chest after a neighbor called 911. Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder called it one of the most horrific scenes in his 41 years, noting community rumors of Delucia's distress and past mental health issues.
Nassau County police arrested a driver for DWI on the Long Island Expressway near Syosset, finding a loaded gun and cocaine in the vehicle during the stop. Recent burglaries hit Syosset businesses along Jericho Turnpike, with thieves targeting small shops overnight. A fatal crash on Northern State Parkway near Exit 40 claimed one life, closing lanes into Syosset. These events highlight rising concerns on local roads like the LIE and Northern State that have drawn attention across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
