The Amazon Fresh at 50 Manetto Hill Rd in Plainview shut its doors Sept. 28, 2025, just months after its October 2024 debut. This closure signals Amazon's full retreat from physical grocery stores nationwide by Feb. 1, 2026.

Plainview's Amazon Fresh store at 50 Manetto Hill Rd has closed, less than a year after its October 2024 opening, as Amazon pulls back from brick-and-mortar supermarkets across the U.S.
The store's last day was Sept. 28, 2025. "Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering, we've decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Plainview," an Amazon spokesperson said. This move hits Long Island hard, with other nearby sites like Oceanside at 3620 Long Beach Road and East Setauket also shutting down by Feb. 1, 2026.
Shoppers flocked to the Plainview location upon its October 2024 debut, drawn by high-tech checkout-free shopping tied to Amazon's delivery network. But profitability issues ended the experiment fast. The store operated just 11 months before closing. Amazon's grocery fulfillment center in Bethpage stays open for local pickup and delivery.
Affected Plainview workers can transfer to nearby Amazon sites. Nationwide, Amazon ran 57 Fresh stores in eight states and 15 Go convenience stores, none other on Long Island. Most close Feb. 1, 2026; California spots linger longer. Amazon plans to convert some to Whole Foods and boost online grocery. A Whole Foods is eyed for Mount Sinai Shopping Center at 5501 Nesconset Hwy.
This shift leaves Plainview residents turning to spots like Stop & Shop on Manetto Hill Rd or local markets. Long Island's retail landscape continues to evolve — Macy's at Sunrise Mall in Massapequa is also closing its doors this spring, while Sephora recently opened at Mayfair Shopping Center in Commack, pushing that center to full occupancy. Meanwhile, Zara's first Eastern Long Island store is set to open at Smith Haven Mall in 2026.
